INNOVATIVE PIXELS

Deepsky has developed a revolutionary pixel, made of tiny Micro-LED chips, directly mounted on the screen surface.

The Micro-LED are individually connected with one of the most reliable technique possible in electronics. They are then encapsulated in a rugged black layer that protect the entire screen. Its surface becomes smooth, solid, unbreakable.

Despite their size, each Micro-LED is still a very powerful light source, even when protected by a black surface that covers the entire screen, so they appear as stars on a pitch black sky, offering the highest level of contrast possible.

ANY PIXEL LAYOUT !

Most modern Direct-LED video displays use 3-in-1 RGB LEDs: three LED chips are integrated inside an SMD electronics package that may be mounted on the screen surface. Manufacturing constraints determine the pixel layout of these displays: only square pixels are possible.

Deepsky uses discrete Red, Green and Blue monochrome micro-LEDs, that can be arranged in many ways to offer the best pixel structure for any given application.

FOCUS ON THE DELTA ENHANCED PIXEL LAYOUT

Deepsky Optic Team implemented a new pixel layout for Direct-LED video displays, called the RGB Delta-Enhanced, inspired by the latest developments in photography-grade CCD sensors, whose structure is similar to that of the human retina.

The principle are very simple: the human eye is much more sensitive to brightness information than colour information, which means that chrominance information can be reduced without perceived loss in video rendering. For example, HD videos for Blu-ray players are encoded in 4:2:0, meaning that the resolution for colour information is only one quarter of the resolution for brightness, with almost no perceivable loss.

In other words, the human eye recognises an LED more as a light source than a colour source.

One of the benefits of the RGB Delta-Enhanced layout is that it delivers optimal brightness resolution for any given density of LED chips. Just imagine it in a black and white colour space!

The RGB Delta layout is also optimal for retinal perception of vibrant, colourful content, taking advantage of the human eye’s capacity to perfectly mix colours.

Optimal Resolution for Video Input

To get the most out of your screen, the Deepsky Video Processing Team advises that the resolution of the video source should be higher than the size of the screen divided by the Pitch for Optimal Resolution.

In millimetres Horizontal pitch Vertical pitch Pitch for optimal resolution Nb of LED per sqm Nb of LED triplets per sqm Equivalent RGB pitch
VEGA 0.75 1.125 0.93 1.2M 395k 1.6
The video processing engine incorporates a full set of state-of-the-art algorithms to upscale or downscale your content to your screen’s ideal requirements, ensuring full compatibility with 2K/4K content.
Example

For a 16/9, 142 inches, Vega screen:

  • Screen size: 2808 x 1512 mm ; 4.25 m2
  • Pitch for optimal resolution: 0.93 mm
  • Minimum resolution of video content for optimal display: 3019 x 1626 pixels
Recommended Video Source
